Semi-Private vs 1-on-1 Personal Training: Which Fits Your Goals?
At Legacy Del Mar we run both one-on-one and small semi-private sessions, and clients often ask which is “better.” Neither is better in the abstract — they solve different problems.

Semi-private training is one of the most popular ways our Del Mar and Solana Beach clients train — but
it’s often misunderstood as a “group class.” It isn’t. Here’s how it actually works at Legacy Del Mar
and who it fits.
In a semi-private session, you train in a small group of two to four, but every person follows their
own individualized program. The coach moves between clients, cueing technique and adjusting loads. You
get expert programming and real coaching attention at a lower per-session cost than one-on-one.
Semi-private fits clients who are past the absolute beginner stage and have reliable technique. If
you’re brand new or managing an injury, we usually start you with one-on-one sessions to build movement
quality, then transition you into semi-private once you’re ready. The American Council on Exercise notes
that supervised instruction early on improves form — so we front-load that attention.
You arrive, your program is ready, and you move through your warm-up and working sets while the coach
circulates — correcting, spotting, and progressing your loads. No guesswork, no waiting for equipment,
no wondering what to do next.
We start every new client with a consultation and an assessment so we can place you in the right
format from day one. If semi-private is the fit, we’ll match you to a session time and a starting
program. Book your consultation to begin.

Coaches whose specialties include semi private and private training.
At Legacy Del Mar we run both one-on-one and small semi-private sessions, and clients often ask which is “better.” Neither is better in the abstract — they solve different problems.
A client of ours moved to a condo in Solana Beach two years ago and swapped her studio sessions for a pair of adjustable dumbbells and a doorway anchor.
Walking into a private training studio is a different experience from a crowded commercial gym — and the difference shows up in your results.
Your first consultation and introductory session with a Legacy coach is free, with no obligation. A Legacy coach will build the plan around your history, schedule and goals.
